Recently, I received 3 items from Cailyn Cosmetics as the 3rd place prize for a Natural Makeup Photo Contest. From left to right: Cailyn Lip Balm in the shade Coral ($19), Cailyn eye shadow in the shade Champagne ($15), and Cailyn Gelux Eyebrow Filler in the shade Nutmeg ($22).
Each of these items had an applicator built into the packaging, which I thought was very convenient, especially when taking your makeup with you for touch-ups on the go. The packaging is very cute and neat, and you get a decent amount of product for the price point, however the makeup itself was disappointing.
The lip balm was my least favorite of all of the Cailyn products I tried. Usually the point of a lip balm is to add color and moisturize, however I felt that this product actually dried my lips out as I wore it. Immediately when it comes into contact with your lips, it dries... and I mean it really dries. I found myself resisting the urge to put on Chapstick as this lip balm created the sensation of dry, chapped lips. The color went on very blotchy and my boyfriend actually asked me "Why are some parts of your lips colorful and others have no color at all," which is never a good sign.
On a lighter note, I really enjoy the Brow Filler. They just so happened to send me the perfect shade for my skin tone and hair color. Although I do not usually fill in my brows, as my natural eyebrows are fairly thick to begin with, I did enjoy the look I was able to achieve with this product. Unlike many brow fillers that I have tried in the past, the Cailyn gel did NOT go on sticky or goopy in any way. It feels very lightweight and the built-in brush applicator makes it very easy to achieve a natural brow look as opposed to a very harsh brow, which tends to look unnatural and (let's be honest) a bit scary. This is NOT a setting gel for eyebrows! It is only a color filler! You may still need to add a clear brow gel to prevent any stray hairs. (TIP: if you do not have a clear brow gel, you can spritz a spoolie with some hairspray and using it to prevent fly away brow hairs!)
Lastly, the Cailyn eye shadow... this product did not stand out in a great way, nor did it strike me as being horrible. It was very so-so. The pigment, as you see it in the packaging, is gorgeous. The Champagne color is very universal and looks good on basically everyone. Unfortunately, as you apply it to the lid the pigment seems to disappear. I found myself needing to add layer after layer, and still being unsatisfied with the amount of pigment. Also there was a great deal of fall-out as I was applying the shadow, so I did have to go back to touch up my foundation under my eyes.
Overall, for the price point I would not recommend any Cailyn lip balms or eye shadows. The highlight of the 3 products I tried was definitely the Brow Filler. If you are in the market for a new brow filler that goes on very naturally and has a built-in applicator, I would definitely suggest the Cailyn Gelux Eyebrow Filler. That being said, I do not plan to purchase any further products from Cailyn Cosmetics at this time.
